Life House Nantucket, Through My Eyes: Meiwen See
A visual diary of a stay at Life House, Nantucket, from a photographer and designer's point of view.
10am
I landed and arrived at Life House, Nantucket. The room is beautifully decorated down to the smallest details.
There’s a curated playlist playing on the TV, a bright reading desk, and even the air conditioning unit is housed in a beautiful wood case – these are the small design touches that I appreciate so much. My favorite piece in the room has to be the floral pendant lamp in the middle of the room, which pulls together all the other floral elements so well.
11am
I had the House breakfast in the beautiful courtyard area, and the best matcha latte! This space is surrounded by greenery and felt lush and calming.
1pm
There's a lot to explore throughout the hotel. The lobby and entrance area is filled with so many little gems. I loved the playful tiger rug going up the stairway, and the vintage-inspired lighting. The hotel has a lot of little nooks, and at every turn it feels like there’s something new to discover. It’s honestly a photographer’s dream hotel.
2pm
I rented a bike from Young’s Bicycle Shop and took it all around the island – it’s such a special way to discover the surrounding areas. The Jethro Coffin House was one of my favorite stops. You go up a dirt pathway that opens to a gorgeous meadow with this historical house on it. The perfect destination to bring a picnic and a book.
4pm
One of my favorite parts about the living room is the dappled afternoon light that comes through as the sun gets lower. The whole space glows. I spent a lot of time in these spaces just lounging around and catching up on some work.
5pm
Aperitif time! Cocktails on the house everyday for two hours was such a fun offering. There’s plenty of locations around the property, like the courtyard, to enjoy a drink with friends, or mingle with other guests before dinner. The House staff were amazing, and had a lot of great restaurant recommendations – one being Bar Yoshi which turned out to be one of my favorite meals of the trip.
6:30pm
In the evenings I would walk into the downtown area for dinner, and admire all the quaint houses along the way. I saw one house with a whole yard filled with peonies. So dreamy! All the florals and plant life on this island has been lovely to see. The Proprietors bar & table was one of the most memorable finds, just for the interior design alone.
7:45pm
Last stop of the day – Brant Point. Definitely another highlight and an iconic part of the island. The way golden hour hits the water in Nantucket is another level of magic. I sat on a pier here for a long time just watching the water rippling, the grass blowing back and forth, and the boats passing by. This beach is just a short ways away from Life House and an ideal place to wind down.
